Public education

As an alternative education centre we have felt the need to share with others – parents, teachers, other interested adults - the reasons why we are different and to explain what is this difference. We have also felt it our responsibility to share with others why a move in this direction is important for our children and the society as a whole.

Through meetings at CFL and participation in different forums and publications, we hope to engage people on issues related to education, parenting, culture, social-economic injustice, consumerism and ecology. We strive to strengthen people to understand education to mean more than schooling and to build a community of people who are willing to explore a more sustainable way of living

Edu-Care  Is an occasional publication, for private circulation.  It features discussions and articles on education. We do not subscribe to the narrow definition of education restricted to classroom issues or pedagogy. Education for us is a lifelong process of how we define ourselves through grappling with the dilemmas and challenges of contemporary life. A culling out of personal values, eschewing second hand solutions, from within a social, cultural, political, economic matrix of received wisdom that one neither blindly accepts nor blindly rejects. It is this personal quest and journey that we share with our friends in Edu-Care

Outreach

CFL offers consultation service to parents who need advice regarding their child’s education. Parents are welcome to drop in to talk with us – appointment essential. This is also open to parents whose children are not on our rolls.

CFL also undertakes teacher professional development and curriculum planning for other organizations upon request.

We also welcome requests/offers of working closely with other voluntary organizations, schools or individuals on specific issues or projects.
